7days

It's a final countdown!
Everything is done, now I am just waiting tick-tok tick-tok.
To be honest, from time to time I worry about a few things., actually about two things. One of them is ridiciously stupid and the other one is I guess normal for everyone who moves to Dubai.
So the first thing:
WEATHER
I just love when it is cold and when snow sparkles in the street lamp's light. When I think of paradise I think of winter. So this creates a tiny problem-Dubai is, let's be honest, unbearable, when it comes to high temperatures. But really who would mind that it the prize was living in this city. So in fact, it is not a problem at all.
The second:
cultural differences
I'm just afraid of making some kind of faux pas in public, which may cause some unpleasent consequences,. I've always been a troublemaker. Si here I have a little request to every person who is by chance reading this post: If you have any experiences regarding the behaviour and the DO's and DON'Ts please email me: jk.in.dubai@gmail.com I would be grateful for any hints. :)
I guess the most important thing when living in any arabic country is respecting their culture, as we are thei guests, and not the opposite. And my dad has almost done one of the biggest faux pas recently-he almost entered the women section on the bus, which was followed by disgusted glances of all the men and women on the bus. I felt so sorry for my dad. :D
It'll be okay, I can't complain in advance, It'll make everything worse, so I know everything will work out in some way. :)

And the baking part:
My had her bday party yesterday and I thought that a good idea would be to make some pralines.
They are easy and tasty.

So here is the recipe for the white chocolate pralines:

What you need is 240 grams of white chocolate, 1/4 of cup of heavy cream and 1 table spoon of rum. Just put it to a pot, and mix until combined on low heat, later put it to two small bowl and to the refrigeartor for 4 hours. Take them out, form small balls 1-1.5 cm in diameter and coat it with castor sugar or desiccated coconut.
The recipe comes from the best polish cooking blog: kwestia smaku (matter of taste) just click on the link to go to the page.

2 weeks to go!

It is happening. A few weeks ago it was still the "next year", but now, I know for sure that in two weeks I'm moving to Dubai. I have never ever been so excited before!
When I got used to the thought of living my country, I started searching. Searching for THE school. The school from which I’ll graduate, the one that would prepare me for the future and the one that will fit typically ten criteria of judgment. The look, the uniforms (Why?), facilities, subjects etc.  I was a real optimist when it came to the applications and stuff. I was. Later on, it turned out that thanks to the polish scholar system, I fit nowhere. None of the International Baccalaureate DP School was eager to accept me in the middle of the year. Some said that I'm too young, some said that too old. Every school was able to find a problem, just not to let me in. I was really scared that I would end up in some arabic school. Finally everything was okay, (thanks to my parent's friends) after a lot of problems and researches I found the school.
Something about cooking, as always.
So the first thing: Very, very late Merry Christmas!
And after my final exams I thought I would bake a cake. So here it is. A blue, 3-layer cake with vanilla cream cheese and some lemon zest on top. I knowthe photos are not the best quality, but my sister was unavailable. ;)

It's a piece of pie

Nowadays I had very little time to post something new, and this  will not be too long either, but I thought that I'll just share with you the best recipe for a pie, very chocolate, very tasty and it is oerfect for any social occasion. :)
I would like to introduce you to the Missisipi mud pie! (I couldn't find the recipe in english, and I have only the polish one, but I think Martha Stewart's is quite similar:http://www.marthastewart.com/336789/mississippi-mud-pie )
creds to my sister :)
Well, I hope you will enjoy it, and since the weather sucks (at least here), chocolate is the best thing to eat on a rainy/snowy/sunny/any day.
xx
J.
p.s. Right now my life is a mess. There are a lot of problems regarding the school and I'm trying to prepare to the entrance exams. As soon as they are finished, I'll try to write about how was it.

The beginning

To begin with, Hi! Thanks for making the great effort of reading this, as it probably is not a masterpiece.  Well, I hate writing the „about me“ part, so I will skip it if you don’t mind.

Until February I will be in my hometown, which means last months of freedom, hanging out with my friends and lessons (almost) in polish. In fact the last months of all the things I love the most.  Preparations, preparations, preparations. My entire life I thought I will have my final exams in my country and never considered moving to another one and for sure not UNITED ARAB EMIRATES.  To be honest, at first I thought it’s a cruel, stupid joke, who wouldn’t think like that anyway?

I used to make a countdown until the holidays, now the only word that is ticking in my head is „February, February, February“ The time is moving so fast! I don’t have to time to say goodbye to all the people I want, it is like moths became weeks.

When I think about moving to this vibrant, hot, weird, new, funny, expensive, extravagant, unique, modern (you can use thousands and thousands of adjectives, yet you won’t express what is the Dubai like in 100% in words, you just have to see it) city more, I am excited, truly excited. Feeling like a kid before opening the Christmas presents.  I have no idea of what to expect. Anxiety. That is the word. But okay I’m being too dramatic here, ugh sorry.  But it can make you really sad sometimes, just the perspective of not seeing all your friends and family for a very long time.

Luckily I’ve found the golden mean for my bad mood. Something that is always helping-baking. It rhymes! I love it, so here is one thing you know about me, I do love baking. Since always. So I will try to post one picture of what I’ve done under each post.
Here we go with the first one.:
Blueberry cupcakes with lemon cream cheese frosting. They are so easy and really delicious, they are great both with and without the frosting. You can find this super easy recipe here: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/lemon-blueberry-cupcakes-with-lemon-cream-cheese-frosting-recipe/index.html

But to the point, how did I end up in Dubai?
Imagine yourself fighting with your best friend via Skype. Done? Okay, good. Now imagine that you are really, really angry, shouting etc. Also done? Great, we are close to the main point. Think that you hear a gentle, shy knock on your door and that your dad puts his head into your room like a turtle (Oh I know it’s a weird picture to create in your mind) and says „we are moving to Dubai“.  And you are not even able to say a single word nor to fight with your friend, just sitting there, having the dumbest face in the world. Well, that is what has happened to me a few weeks a ago. Do you want to know how it looked like later?  Simply follow my blog. : )
love,
J.
